Meet Your Tutor
Not only can I help struggling readers, I am also licensed to screen both children and adults wondering if they may be dyslexic.
I have worked with Children most of my adult life and have always found joy in helping them find their confidence. This included 10 years working as a Reading Coordinator in the Provo School District. While there I worked to help children in kindergarten through sixth grade to advance in their reading and trained our Aides to use the different reading programs the school offered to help these same students.
During that time I saw a great need for individual, personal tutoring that schools cannot always meet. I spent time looking for the best possible program to help my students. This program works not only to improve struggling readers but also has the correct curriculum to help those who are dyslexic.

Ms. Dalene is a true gem in the world of education.

”Dalene has tutored 2 of my dyslexic children. She tutored my daughter for several years and made such a huge difference. She made tutoring something my daughter looked forward to. She encouraged her and helped her feel like she was smart and capable. I was surprised to find the public schools had little to help my daughter. What they did have was in groups. I felt overwhelmed and so appreciated a trained person to help her one on one. Dalene’s individual attention helped Kate reach grade level reading, which was truly amazing. She also gave me suggestions and tips that I could do at home to help.
Recently, she has been tutoring my son as well. He especially enjoys the reading games she plays with him. Initially he dreaded the idea of tutoring and now enjoys it! She somehow can make him willingly do things I can’t. It’s a relief to feel I’m taking steps to help him by sending him to Dalene for tutoring.

”I had become pretty discouraged with the lack of progress my son was making through the schools’ programs even with what I thought I was doing to help him at home. Simon was having a hard time going to school and felt like he was missing fun things the class was doing when he was pulled out to work in reading groups. He did not always like going to tutoring, until he realized he was reading. After that, he looked forward to seeing what more he could learn and how fast he could move through his lessons. In the 14 months Simon worked with Miss Day, he progressed to his 4 th grade level and his confidence increased. He will now Choose to read a book on his own. I would recommend Miss Day for any reader who is struggling.

Frequently asked questions
Do you do remote/zoom tutoring?
I have found that kids do better in-person, so I only offer in-person tutoring right now.
How do I know if this will help my child?
I have worked with children who have struggled with reading for many different reasons. What I have seen in all, is the confidence they find in one-on-one tutoring where they do not have to prove themselves or abilities to others in a group. They see their own growth as they go. This gives them the encouragement they need to continue to keep trying. Seeing their own improvement and growth builds their confidence faster then any other thing.
What can we expect when working with you?
I try and make the lessons informative, helpful and fun. I will teach them “Pencil Reading” to help them see and sound out each sound in each word – this helps stop the guessing game. We learn “vowel placement strategy to help them determine what sound a vowel will make based on where it falls in a word and the letters surrounding it. We work on sight words that do not follow a regular pattern, and pass them off. Have a Strong emphasis with Phonemic Awareness. We make a goal each and every lesson.
